The Hand Drill is a basic tool that damages objects within melee distance. While primarily used to mine asteroids for harvesting ores or for creating tunnels, the Hand Drill can also be used to make controlled dents in ship hulls for aesthetics or as a melee weapon against other players in Survival Mode. It features a built-in Ore Detector with limited range.
When mining, the Hand Drill does not automatically pick up every ore it mines. Many chunks of ore will instead be set adrift as objects in the world to be collected manually. Holding the "Interact" key (default: 'T') while mining with the Hand Drill is generally recommended, as this will cause the player to pick up many of the ore chunks as they are created. When used to damage blocks, the Hand Drill will not produce any Components; the Grinder is a better tool for destroying constructed items.
Using the Hand Drill consumes Suit Energy.
The player always spawns with one Hand Drill in their inventory, as well as a Grinder and a Welder. Additional Hand Drills can be constructed in an Assembler.
