Overview
The Hand Drill is a basic tool that damages objects within melee distance. While primarily used to mine asteroids for harvesting ores or for creating tunnels, the Hand Drill can also be used to make controlled dents in ship hulls for aesthetics or as a melee weapon against other players in Survival Mode. It features a built-in Ore Detector with a limited range of 20 meters.
Usage
Using the Hand Drill consumes Suit Energy. When mining, the Hand Drill does not automatically pick up every ore it mines. Many chunks of ore will instead be set adrift as objects in the world to be collected manually. Holding the "Interact" key (default: 'F') while mining with the Hand Drill is generally recommended, as this will cause the player to pick up many of the ore chunks as they are created. When used to damage blocks, the Hand Drill will not produce any Components; the Grinder is a better tool for destroying constructed items.
The player always spawns with one Hand Drill in their inventory if enabled in World Settings, as well as a Grinder, Welder, and an Automatic Rifle. Additional hand drills can be constructed in an Assembler.
Variations
There are now three upgraded versions of the Hand Drill. They are superior to the standard Hand Drill, by having progressively faster speeds and larger dig radii.
- Enhanced Hand Drill - requires more Silicon.
- Proficient Hand Drill - requires Silver.
- Elite Hand Drill - requires platinum.

Tips
- Hold the interact key (default F) to grab ore chunks as they get drilled.
