Naming Standardization
Having just joined, I don't want to be presumptuous and just make these changes (especially since there may be SMW interactions I'm unaware of), but I've noticed some places where categories/links/labels/ect don't quite match each other. The oddest case is Materials/Raw Materials/Ores: Itemnav
lists Ingots as Materials and Ores as Raw Materials, Raw Materials is a page about Ingots, Materials redirects to Raw Materials, Itembox
on pages about Ingots links to Material (which doesn't exist), and the Main Page links to Crafting Materials and Raw Materials, both of which go to the page about Ingots, and does not link to Ores.
With such finite and well-defined item types in the game, I would think we'd have these pages and their associated categories:
- Ores (Category:Ores)
- Material (Category:Materials)
- Components (Category:Components)
- Tools (Category:Tools)
- Block (Category:Blocks)
If we don't want to call Stone an Ore, we could select a different name for that group of unrefined materials, but we should certainly standardize on something instead of this halfway point where Raw Materials is being used in some places to mean Unrefined Materials and other places to mean Refined Materials.
Side note: I'm a fan of singular Article names and pluralized Category names, in part because it's standard practice, but mostly because it avoids unnecessary pipelinking:
"this is a Tool." | "these are Tools." | |
---|---|---|
page at "Tool" | this is a Tool. | these are Tools. |
page at "Tools" | this is a Tool. | these are Tools. |
Sure it's not a big difference, and can be avoided anyway by having appropriate redirects, but it's usually simpler just to have Article titles be singular.
I would also think Small ship and Large ship should be moved to Small Ship and Large Ship to match their in-game names. Finally, we seem to be lacking the page Space Engineers, which would describe the game this wiki's all about. Comments? Questions? I can make most of the changes, but am not bold enough to do them without discussion on my first day here. --timrem (talk) 04:44, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Suggestion: An intro to the wiki
There are a few assumptions and standards on the wiki that are obvious and barely thought about by experienced users, but are not entirely clear to newbies. Can't upload images!
Tried multiple times to upload a png image, each time getting the error "The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo in the filename. Please check whether you really want to upload this file.". Did a quick Google search, and it might be something to do with image directory permissions? Edit: Also noticed the wiki can't generate thumbnails, if that helps diagnose the problem.

Wiki functions seem very broken can admin investigate.
The wiki's several key mediawiki functions are broken currently as of 5th of April 2017. These functions that do not work correctly are as follows but are not limited to:
- Cannot upload any images. The wiki throws up an error that the file is empty.
- Cannot display thumbnailed images for some reason, as seen on the main page with the logo.
- Cannot visit other people's user 'social' profiles without generating a DBQueryError error.
- Cannot move page without generating a DBQueryError error. A suitable workaround is to manually move but then again this not as intended.
