Electricity is used to power all kinds of devices in Space Engineers. It can be generated with Reactors. It can travel through blocks, so as long as a device is a part of a ship that has a reactor, it will remain functional.
If you have multiple machines, you might require multiple Reactors too to produce enough electricity.
