The Vending Machine allows a player to list items for sale to other players. The selling player lists items for sale through a special control screen. Buying players select items to buy using the screen and buttons on the block. The price of the item is subtracted from the buying player's account balance and added to the selling player's account, minus a transaction fee that is kept by the vending machine.

Usage

The owner of the vending machine can access the special functions of the machine by aiming at the screen and pressing the Terminal button (default K key) for the standard control panel, the Interact button (default F key) for the special control panel, or the Inventory button (default I key) for the vending machine's internal inventory. The vending machine cannot connect to a conveyor system; use the Store block for that.

The special control panel allows the owner to control what items are for sale, what quantity to sell, and how many Space Credits to sell them for. The large panel on the left lists what sell offers have been created. The top right panel lists all items in the game that can be sold, even if none of them are in possession. The bottom right section has controls for setting the sell price for items.

To create a new sell offer, first select an item from the upper right panel. The Price per Unit field will automatically update with the minimum sell price for the item. Next, enter a number in the Amount field. This will be how many units can be sold through this new offer. After that many units have sold then the offer will delete itself, even if the vending machine has surplus units in stock. Changing the Amount field will update the pricing details below it.

Click on the Create Offer button to add the offer to the panel on the left side. This will subtract the Listing Fee from your Account Balance. All offers listed on the left side panel will be available through the vending machine's screen. Be sure to stock the vending machine with the items offered for sale. Access the vending machine's inventory (default I key) and transfer them from your personal inventory into the vending machine.

Purchasing from the vending machine is done using the buttons on the right side of the machine's screen. Use the up and down buttons to scan through the available sell offers. The screen will update with the name of the item, a picture of the item, the amount of units that this offer has remaining (regardless of actual inventory), and the price of each unit. Use the bottom button to purchase the item. It's price will be subtracted from your account balance and the item will be added to your inventory. The purchase price will be added to the seller's account balance, minus the transaction fee.

If the sell offer has additional units left in the offer, but the vending machine does not have the inventory to fulfill the offer, then attempting to buy the item will cause the screen to flash, "Out of Stock." The vending machine owner must add more units of the item to the vending machine's inventory.

Fees & Accounting

Field Calculation Description
Total Price (Amount) × (Price per Unit) The amount of Space Credits needed to purchase all items in the offer.
Listing Fee (Total Price) × 0.03 The listing fee is 3% of the total price of the offer. This fee is subtracted from your account balance a single time when the Create Offer button is clicked. No portion of this fee is refunded, even if the offer is immediately deleted.
Transaction Fee (Total Price) × 0.02 This transaction fee is 2% of the total price of the offer. While the Transaction Fee field shows the total cost of the fee, nothing is subtracted from your account balance when the offer is created. Instead, 2% of purchase price of an item is retained by the vending machine before the money is deposited into your account. This field is simply showing you how much will be withheld after all items have been sold.
