Ships can be constructed and navigated by players. Ships are not limited in the size and scope to which they can be built, however excessive builds will adversely affect ship's performance.[1]

Controls

First Person View from inside a ship's Cockpit

Players will be able to fly most ships from a 1st person perspective and from a 3rd person perspective. If the ship is large, 3rd person perspective will be the only view available.[2] Maximum ship speed is speculated at 300 m/s[3]

Alpha

Large and small ships will be available during alpha.

Large and Small Ships

The differences in Large ships compared to small ships has been summarized as following:

  • large ships have few additional block types - interior wall, turrets, door, different cockpit
  • large ships are designed to have interiors, whereas small ships are not made this way (they could have interiors but that's not their purpose)
  • large ships can take more damage (their armor has 5x5x5 more mass and strength)[4]

Classification

Original Image from Keen forums on ship classification
The classification of ships is based on tonnage and utility, using conventional wet-navy designations. These classes are able to describe the relative size and functionality. These definitions are by no means strict. The definitions were first suggested in the Keen Forums.[5] Note that the current standards of classification have no strict definitions of fighters.
