About

The Vanguard Imperium is a vast empire and military protectorate comprising both military and civilian entities. All members are subject to the Codex Imperium, the laws governing the empire. The Vanguard Imperium is a role-playing faction. If you have never had experience role-playing or are unfamiliar with the concept, we recommend you read the role-playing primer section to familiarize yourself with the concept.

Codex Imperium

Let the scattered dust of humanity form the vanguard of the galaxy. Gather them as mortar for the construction of an empire. Shelter mankind from its destruction at the hands of an uncaring universe. Let every star that blazes weep for joy at the pinnacles of our engineering marvels. Out of nothing, everything!

Government & Organization

Citizen Rights & Responsibilities

  • All citizens are entitled to bare arms for the express purpose of defending the Vanguard Imperium.
  • All citizens have the right to join the Imperial Senate to voice concerns of the Empire.
  • All citizens have the right to a fair trial.
  • No citizen shall kill another member citizen of the Vanguard Imperium.
  • No citizen shall destroy the personal property, ship or structure of another member without the express consent of the owner.
  • No citizen shall steal the raw materials, personal property, ship or structure of another member, military or government.
  • No citizen shall take action to help a foreign government or domestic conspiracy overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the Vanguard Imperium.
  • No citizen can be convicted of treason without the witness and testimony of two citizens to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

Astro Engineering

This section contains the bylaws of engineering within the empire. Engineering is subject to the office and oversight of the Vanguard Imperial Engineering Corps.

Ships

  • All faction ship designs must be approved by the Supreme Commander in conjunction with the Council General before entering fleet service.
  • Civilian and commercial ships do not require design approval.

Space Stations

  • All faction space station designs must be approved by the Supreme Commander in conjunction with the Council General before entering service.
  • Civilian and commercial stations do not require design approval, but do require location approval if contesting with military or government stations.

Personal Housing

  • All citizens are entitled to build and occupy personal housing.
  • Personal housing can be a small stand-alone outpost with docking facilities, but should not exceed 20x20x20 blocks.
  • Personal housing can be part of an existing space station or structure with the permission of the owner, subject to any laws governing the structure.
  • Two or more persons may combine their personal housing size allotment to form a single structure with the goal of shared housing to a maximum of 100x100x100 blocks.
  • Housing grants of larger size may be obtained by petitioning the office of the Vanguard Imperial Engineering Corps.

Iconography & Ensignias

  • All military faction ships and structures must bare a mark of the Imperium unless otherwise instructed by the Supreme Commander or the Council General.
  • The minimum mark for military constructs is a flag of the empire: a blue square with a white cross.
  • Larger capital ships should also depict the branch insignia of the ship's military affiliation.
  • All military personnel regardless of rank may optionally depict their rank insignia on any ship they currently command.
  • All officers rank O-08 or above may optionally depict a personal insignia or logo on any ship they current command.
  • All companies and civilian entities may optionally depict a trademark or personal insignia or logo on their ships.
  • No personal or trademark logo should copy or impersonate any mark or insignia of the Unified Vanguard Forces or the Vanguard Imperial government.

Naming & Identification

  • All structures and ships of the Vanguard Imperium must be constructed with two beacons: one beacon for the identification number of the ship/structure and a second beacon for the name designation.
  • Beacons must be active during all non-military flight operations within the sovereign space of the Vanguard Imperium.
  • ID beacons should use the proper prefix, followed by a dash and then the numeric assignment as follows:

  • The Vanguard Imperium does not currently prefix the name designation.
  • Refrain from the use vulgar, derogatory or offensive words or terms for naming ships.
  • Owners of ships or structures found in violation will be issued a warning. Subsequent offenses will result in the confiscation or destruction of the offending constructs.


Role-playing Primer

The core of role-playing is to assume the role of the character you are going to play and act-out the adopted role as if you were that character. The sandbox nature of Space Engineers allows us to play any type of character we set our minds to. Players should be encouraged to explore this world in an open fashion but also to interact with each other in a way that foster's the creative nature of the psyche by acting out your role in the universe.


Getting into character

Think about who your character is and what your goals are in the game. Do you want to rise in the ranks of the Imperium? Do you like to fight or simply be left alone to tinker in a workshop? Do you want to be viewed as a lovable care-bear or a bad-ass marine? By taking a few moments to think about questions like this, you will begin to formulate the character that you want to play. It is also recommended that each member of the Imperium take a few moments to write down some of this information. A back-story can go a long way in helping you get into your character and having this handy can make interactions easier.

Boundaries

Although it is hoped that the members of the Imperium will all be mature players. Maturity comes in many shapes and sizes (read ages) and so it is important to check the boundaries of the players you are interacting with before engaging in role-play that might be deemed illegal in some states. Take care to always be respectful.

DOs

  • DO speak as your character, using words they’d use.
  • DO use a voice you think works for the character. Sometimes a character might talk like you do in real life, but not always.
  • DO use language to suggest the reasoning of your character’s actions.
  • DO be conversational. If someone is speaking to your character, let that character respond in the way that feels right.

DON'Ts

  • DON’T feel confined by yourself and your own voice.
  • DON’T use third person statements. If your character is speaking, then you should make sure that we hear the character talking, not your description of it.
  • DON’T make threats towards the person behind the character, if anger is driving you to rage quit or verbally abuse someone, take a break.
  • DON’T OVERDO IT. This is roleplaying, not Shakespeare.
